Get to Know Ankur Patel, DDS, MS
Dr. Patel has over 10 years of experience and is board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology. For him, the best thing about his career is knowing that he makes a real, lasting difference in his patients’ health. By treating advanced gum disease, he’s able to save teeth that might otherwise be lost, and by placing dental implants, restore his patients’ comfort, oral function, and confidence. He also enjoys being able to work alongside general dentists in more complex cases, building long-term relationships with people in his community and helping educate his patients as well. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Patel decided to become a dentist because he wanted a career where he could help people in a direct way and work with his hands. He was drawn to the combination of science, problem-solving, and patient care, as well as the opportunity to build long-term relationships with his patients. In addition, practicing periodontics is both surgically and intellectually rewarding, as it involves doing precise procedures such as regenerative surgery and soft tissue grafting.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Patel attended the University of Illinois for both his undergraduate and graduate studies. He also earned his Master of Science degree as well as his Certificate of Advanced Specialty in Periodontics upon completing a three-year residency program at the University of Illinois. Since his schooling, he has worked as a clinical faculty member at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry as well as an attending at Eastern Colorado Healthcare, where he trained dentists in periodontal and dental implant surgeries.
Dr. Patel is certified in the Pinhole Surgical Technique™ (PST) as well as oral and IV sedation. He also remains an active member in the American Academy of Periodontology, American Dental Association, Texas Dental Association, and he is board-certified by the American Board of Periodontology.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Patel’s family includes his wife, who is also a dentist, and their two sons. His hobbies include traveling, biking, and being outdoors. An interesting fact about Dr. Patel is that he loves learning how things work and why people think the way they do!
